Practising as a nurse abroad
Registration
It may be necessary to register your qualification as a nurse in other countries before working there. This may be a lengthy process and may require an examination. Contact the registration authority of the country in which you will be working to see what their requirements are (address may be obtained by writing to the records and registration department (Overseas) at the UKCC).
If you trained as a nurse outside the UK and wish to work in the UK, click here for details on registration and other useful information for nursing in the UK.
You may need to produce a verification of registration from the UKCC. If this is required, write to the UKCC (address below) for an application form. A fee of £20 is charged for this.

For those working overseas on a voluntary basis and in countries where there is no system of nurse registration, employment is based on UK registration (i.e. UKCC). It is therefore necessary to maintain registration whilst abroad. Contact the UKCC for further details.
It should be remembered that PREP applies to all those nurses registered with the UKCC, including those working overseas.
